The President's (Code) Tip for Sunday 2/27

On November 22, 1963, when he was hardly past his first thousand days in office, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was killed by an assassin's bullets as his motorcade wound through Dallas, Texas. Kennedy was the youngest man elected President; he was the youngest to die.

Of Irish descent, he was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on May 29, 1917. Graduating from Harvard in 1940, he entered the Navy. In 1943, when his PT boat was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer, Kennedy, despite grave injuries, led the survivors through perilous waters to safety.

In 1956 Kennedy almost gained the Democratic nomination for Vice President, and four years later was a first-ballot nominee for President. Millions watched his television debates with the Republican candidate, Richard M. Nixon. Winning by a narrow margin in the popular vote, Kennedy became the first Roman Catholic President.
As President, he set out to redeem his campaign pledge to get America moving again. His economic programs launched the country on its longest sustained expansion since World War II; before his death, he laid plans for a massive assault on persisting pockets of privation and poverty.

Recently, I have noticed that many of my senior clients have dogs and cats. However, I have been the one walking them, which I love by the way, but I started to wonder what they do when I'm not there. With the assassination of President McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, not quite 43, became the youngest President in the Nation's history. He brought new excitement and power to the Presidency, as he vigorously led Congress and the American public toward progressive reforms and a strong foreign policy.

He took the view that the President as a "steward of the people" should take whatever action necessary for the public good unless expressly forbidden by law or the Constitution." I did not usurp power," he wrote, "but I did greatly broaden the use of executive power."

My youth differed sharply from that of the log cabin Presidents. I was born in New York City in 1858 into a wealthy family, but I too struggled--against ill health--and in his triumph became an advocate of the strenuous life. The President's (Code) Tip for Friday 2/25
Born in 1822, Grant was the son of an Ohio tanner. He went to West Point rather against his will and graduated in the middle of his class.
Grant maneuvered and fought skillfully to win Vicksburg, the key city on the Mississippi, and thus cut the Confederacy in two. Then he broke the Confederate hold on Chattanooga.

Lincoln appointed him General-in-Chief in March 1864. Grant directed Sherman to drive through the South while he himself, with the Army of the Potomac, pinned down Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia.

Finally, on April 9, 1865, at Appomattox Court House, Lee surrendered. Grant wrote out magnanimous terms of surrender that would prevent treason trials.

With the Assassination of Lincoln, the Presidency fell upon an old-fashioned southern Jacksonian Democrat of pronounced states' rights views. Although an honest and honorable man, Andrew Johnson was one of the most unfortunate of Presidents. Arrayed against him were the Radical Republicans in Congress, brilliantly led and ruthless in their tactics. Johnson was no match for them.

Where am I on 
Entering politics, they say I became an adept stump speaker, championing the common man and vilifying the plantation aristocracy. As a Member of the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 1840's and '50's, I advocated a homestead bill to provide a free farm for the poor man.

How to Impact People With The Little Things

Hello Readers,
I was so impacted, in a good way, by one of my Valentine's Day Winners on Monday. I just had to share this with you. Sometimes, personally, I don't really know what or how I am going to appeal to my audience. So, I usually rely on my true internal instincts to lead the way. When I developed the Valentine's Day Giveaway, I wanted to make sure that the gifts I was offering were something I would actually use or have used in the past that have brought joy to my life. I absolutely love The Cheesecake Factory and Sharis Berries and have given them away as gifts to my family and friends. 

I feel that in order to really impact people, you must be open to bringing out a genuine piece of yourself. When you feel pleased with your decisions to help others or feel the excitement without even expecting anything in return, you feel touched when you get comments like the one below. After reading this comment, I thought of a few of my pointers on how to impact people with the little things on your blog or just in your life period:

1. Bring your interests to the forefront of your blog or when getting to know someone. We may not feel comfortable at first expressing who we are to a stranger, but you would be surprised how easy it becomes when you start with a smile. I have found that people really need to see a good smile throughout their day. Give it a try!

2. Be courteous and respectful of others. I know this may be a given to some, but we all have our own personal views on things, but understand that everyone is entitled to their beliefs. Not everyone is going to like what you have to offer on your blog or from interacting with you as a person. However, love the perfect vessel that you are anyway. We only have one body, so love and care for the one you're in.

3. Say "Thank You!". When you're a kid, your mother always said to say, "Thank You", when someone gives you something or pays you a compliments. This still applies as you grow older and venture through life. I can't send out enough Thank You's myself to all the giveaway entrants, my new GFCers, my Twitter Followers, and Facebook Like Fans! You all are the ones that give me the desire and passion to reach out with fabulous giveaways, stories, and matter-of-fact moments from a senior's perspective.

4. Never stop learning. One little thing that can impact anyone in your life is showing them that you still have the capacity to learn. 'You actually don't know it all'. No matter what age, we are continuing to learn and with the world changing so rapidly, we must keep ourselves in learning mode to understand these changes. If people see that you are open to learning from them, then they will bring you the ideas and innovations that you need to satisfy a need for the greater good.

5. Encourage and Pray for others. Sometimes people just need to know that you are there and care to listen. We are creatures of habit and instinct. We know if someone genuinely means well for us or not. By encouraging someone with, "You look nice today!" or "I hope you have a great day!", it triggers a new direction in their mind. Or, praying for someone you may not know all that well, can bring about change and improvements for them and even yourself. 

No one really knows how this all works and why it works, but it does work.  The little things we do for each other can turn around and make us a little bit better.

It's Coupon Wednesdays

Good Morning! 

We've made it to another Coupon Wednesday and I have been using my amazing Coupon Gallery and Coupon Codes to see actually how much money I could save on my grocery shopping. I took a snap shot of two of my favorite shopping items to show how much I saved just by using two coupons, which will show for you in the upper left-hand corner of the coupon box. 

I love my orange juice and a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios, so I saw this coupons to take $1.00 Off two boxes. Cereal is a great source of vitamins and minerals and most of my senior clients eat it very often in the mornings with Low-fat milk or some use Vitamin D. It's even more satisfying when you cut up a couple of bananas, strawberries, and blueberries.

Once you've chosen your coupons, they will be added to your queue as indicated in the left-hand corner to be ready for printing. The next step is to install their brief Coupon Printer and the printing will begin! 

IMPORTANT! I was using my Firefox Browser and it didn't seem to work so well, so if you're going to using my Coupon Gallery and Coupon Codes, use your Internet Explorer browser instead. It will ask if you want to use the Coupons Add-on and just click the yellow bar that appears to get the option to 'Use Add-on' and you'll be on your way!

Happy Valentine's Day and Verses on Love

I am so happy to say Happy Valentine's Day to you. If you will be sharing this day with someone special then have fun and take comfort in that love. However, if you are single, know that I am sending you a special  Valentine's Day huggie!

I found a great couple of verses from the Bible on Love. It is so very well said that it is universal regardless of your religion of choice and it reads:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1 Corinthians, 13:4-7, NIV)

A Valentine's Day Breakfast Treat - Chocolate Griddle Cakes - Yummy!

I am a lover of a good pancake recipe and keeping the love coming for this Valentine's weekend, is a great recipe I came across on DashRecipes. When chocolate and love comes together, what else do you need? I hope you and the one you love can whip yourselves up this Valentine's Day Breakfast Treat - Chocolate Griddle Cakes. Yummy! Enjoy!

Chocolate Griddle Cakes


½ cup Dutch-process unsweetened cocoa powder

1¼ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup sugar

½ tsp baking soda

1/8 tsp salt

2 whole large eggs

1 large egg yolk

¾ cup buttermilk

¼ cup vegetable oil

Unsalted butter


1. Sift together cocoa, flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl, then whisk in eggs, yolk, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla until combined well.

2. Heat a griddle or nonstick skillet over moderately low heat and lightly coat with butter.

3. Working in batches of 2 or 3, pour ¼ cup batter per cake onto hot griddle; cook until bubbles appear on surface, 1 to 2 minutes. Flip cakes with a large spatula; cook until tops spring back when pressed gently, about 1 minute more.

4. Transfer to a plate and loosely cover with foil to keep warm. Add ½ tsp butter to griddle between batches.
